| TUBE FEEDERS |
Tube feeders are sometimes called "Finch Feeders" because that's the type of birds you'll most often attract with this type feeder. A tube feeder is generally a cylindrical piece of plastic, with holes up and down the tube, and perches below the holes for the birds to land on. There generally are two types of tube feeders, a standard type that will hold most types of seed, and the other having very tiny holes that are specially designed for feeding Niger seed. A tube feeder is also a very good "starter" feeder if you're only interested in attracting smaller birds. You can also add a "tray" or "dish" to the bottom of most tube feeders. This allows birds that normally wouldn't use a tube feeder, such as Cardinals, a big enough place to land. Trays also let other bigger birds such as Mourning Doves, Grackles, and Blue Jays use it too, so if you want to stick to smaller birds on your tube feeder, leave the tray off. |
