LET'S GO "DUCKING" on the North Fork with Jody
WINTER DUCKS ON THE NORTH FORK
The North Fork is not short on places to observe winter ducks. With so many bodies of water, LI Sound, The Peconic Bay System, the numerous creeks and the half dozen or so fresh water ponds, the trouble can be deciding where to go! From Orient Point to Riverhead, almost any side road off Route 48 or Route 25 that ends at the water, can offer opportunities. There are several public beaches, as well as Orient State Park that have drive-up, easy access to views of the water. Also be mindful of the gulls. Bonapartes are often seen in Orient, mostly at the Point or State Park. Lesser Black-backed Gulls turn up regularly during winter, mostly at the Sound beaches.
So, dress warmly and as always, Happy Birding!
