HIGHLIGHTS: Caspian Tern, Barn Owl, Clay-colored Sparrow, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD

The YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was spotted again on Sep 24 in the south pasture at Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk (VB). A PARASITIC JAEGER was found between Montauk Pt and Shagwong Pt on Sep 23 harassing the flock of more than 100 terns (DJF). At least 21 COMMON EIDERS were of Caswell’s Beach in Montauk on Sep 20 (JPa)



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in the farm fields on the north side of Town Lane in Amagansett just east of Windmill Lane on Sep 23 (HDM).



At Mecox Bay there were 13 CASPIAN TERNS on Sep 23 (DJF). Two CASPIAN TERNS, 5 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS remained on Sep 26. On Sep 27 there were 8 ROYAL TERNS, 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, 22 FORSTER’S TERN, 2 PIPING PLOVERS (AW).



A BARN OWL was spotted on Sep 22 along Rt 105 near the Peconic River in Riverhead (BA).





BIRDING TRIP THIS SUNDAY



Steve Biasetti will lead a Dune Road Wildlife Tour this Sunday, September 28th, for Group For The East End. The trip will run from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Meet at the west (Hampton Bays) side of Shinnecock Inlet. All are welcome and the event is free.
